Tyler, age 6

I Wish to Watch NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander Arrive on Mars (LIVE)

Tyler, 6, was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) during the Summer of 2006 at the tender age of 4. It is a rare disorder that primarily affects children where too many histiocytes (a form of white blood cell) accumulate in different organs and can result in a variety of symptoms, according to the Histiocytosis Association of America. Because of his illness, Tyler has gone though many surgeries and treatments in his young life.

In March, Tyler was told by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan that he would be getting a very special wish from NASA in May to head out to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., to experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be in the control room when NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander lands on Mars (LIVE).

Make-A-Wish volunteer Fred L. escorted Tyler on his wish for the tour of JPL and said that he, "found himself enthralled by all the scientists that talked to Tyler."

Fred also taped the entire show on the NASA TV network with Tyler in the control room and will be sending Tyler the DVD.

Below are more photos of Tyler's wish and you can also read about his experience on his mother's blog here.
